Why Airsoft Guns?

Air soft guns have turned out to be a wonderful solution to one of our family’s biggest problems.  Running an air soft machine gun business online is never something I thought I would do much less do and enjoy but that is the case.  I am running an airsoft machine gun business and loving it.

I never imagined my children would be hunters and shooters.  I remember adamantly telling my husband our kids will not hunt or shoot until they are eighteen.  I said this because in my perfect world this was not an option.  I just don’t get the excitement of hunting and shooting.

I never have and probably never will.  However, this is not how fate would have it.  Of course upon seeing daddy hunt and shoot inevitably our little angels wanted to follow in his footsteps.  I was horrified!  To all you hunters out there…you would have left your head off the first time I sent my kids out hunting with dad.  They were covered from head to toe in bright colored clothing and doused in bug spray.

You see I am a microbiologist.  My kids were not going to get any diseases from ticks!  Needless to say that trip was not so successful.  After time I have slowly adapted to the fact that my kids will be hunters because that is what they want and that is what their dad likes.

The next dilemma came when they started wanting to join their dad on trips to the shooting range and enjoy the sport of shooting.  There was no way I was about to let my little babies put their hands on the high powered rifles that are involved in the sport of shooting.

In actuality if the guns weren’t so dangerous I would rather they enjoy shooting instead of hunting but that wasn’t the case.  So I searched for a solution and with many conversations with my husband and my son’s deep desire to shoot with him we found airsoft guns. 

Air soft guns are replicas of other guns that shoot 6mm plastic BBs instead of the traditional ammunition used by regular guns and are much less powerful.  These guns are used by many people who wish to enjoy the sport of shooting without the more expensive and more dangerous “real” guns.  As a mother I like these guns because they are much less powerful and fire less than 1,000 feet per second.  This is considered safe and non-lethal in a controlled environment.  I also loved the fact that these guns can use biodegradable airsoft BBs which are much more eco-friendly than traditional ammunition.

After studying and reading up on these guns I decided as long as my family practiced good gun safety and respected these guns as “real” guns then they could enjoy the sport of shooting with them.  After all I know one day they will grow up and if they continue enjoying the sport of shooting and hunting they will need to know how to safely handle guns and I would rather learn with air soft guns than “real” guns.

In life we all have to make compromises and choices.  Sure I could remain to put my foot down and refuse for my children to enjoy these sports with their father but I know in the bigger picture there is a lot of bonding going on while they spend time together.  So instead of causing lots of friction I just readjusted my thinking and searched for a solution that was pleasing to all.  Isn’t this what life is all about.
