From the lab of Observation - Way of success

Power of Observation

We witness human civilizations progress - turning the wheel of time by extraordinary enterprise. Studies show that time after time in human history its few men who brought glory to human race in shaping modern societies that yearn for safe, secured and comfort living. Be it Adam, the first man on earth attempting to put some order in the growing human race or Galileo with his research placing the foundation stone for scientific revolution in human life or Darwin theories enlightening civilized men into modern biology or Yuri Gagarin unwavering intent as an astronaut to explore the order of universe or for that matter Dr. L. Kleinrock and Vint Cert popularly credited for creating the virtual world of internet.

Such men turned the wheels of time to leave an indelible impact on the world order that renewed the cultural outlook of modern society every time. We may call such men as part of the “big leap” clan. Attentive study of such people’s lives, ideologies, motivations and relentlessness with which they added purpose to human lives; provide very interesting thought provoking insights.

Famous writer James Allen in his book “As a Man Thinketh’’; profoundly presents a study of how thoughts shape character of people that results in success, mediocrity or misery. Various studies reveal that human thought process manifests in the ability to read and relate with situation thereby harnessing extraordinary power of observation. It is the distinguishing factor that helps sizing up invisible but strong need, big but beyond-the-obvious void or some underlying phenomenon that deserves unraveling.

As a hallmark of progressive human society, intriguing great minds (“big leap” clan) with their indefatigable pursuit of making that big transformation, change etc., have always strived for a safe, secured and comfort living of the modern society. Human science experts, psychologists and other scholars debate on harnessing power of observation as a skill that can only be mastered with conceptual and experiential learning mechanisms. On the other hand, some also consider it as a trait that is prerogative of few who are born with it.

Although such arguments can only enhance the scope of study regarding this subject but it certainly doesn’t undermine in any way significance of observation for gaining next order in civilizing human society.

Please note that different research studies from time immemorial also show human beings have been result oriented by their nature and largely, it has been because of the function of enterprise, need, time and action rendered. Therefore, “big leap” lives are triggered by a sense of need, demand, desire or aspiration lead in successfully transforming human lives using power of observation. Few cases that epitomize excellence of human endeavor in areas of business, science and social life are referred below for understanding:

  • 1. Simplicity in Newton’s observation – Falling objects & forces operating in space, gravity, etc.
  • 2. Experiential learning of Archimedes –Upward force that keeps thing afloat; sowed seed to modern physics, sea trade, etc.
  • 3. Business of Dic and Mac – Provide quick, cheap and small meal ; McDonalds
  • 4. Bill Gates and the PC fascination – A PC in every house hold ; Microsoft
  • 5. Michael Dell basic desire – Selling directly to customers their choice of product without middlemen; Dell Corporation
  • 6. Steve Job’s iPod – Revolutionize listening music in people’s live – Apple Corp.
  • 7. Larry Page and Sergey aggregating content to enhance knowledge gaining experience ; Google
  • 8. Jack Dorsey’s dream to have an sms based social network – Twitter
  • 9. Raman Roy – Father of call center industry in India
  • 10. Muhammad Younus – Business of Grameen banking that supports the poorest

If harnessing power of observation is a skill or trait that needs to be harnessed with conceptual & experiential learning mechanisms then Institutes like Harvard, IITs, IIMs etc., which are considered as Mecca of erudition, should play a key role in developing thought leaders who can perhaps be incumbents for the “big leap” clan.

More so the quality of transformation or the order of change with its scope, depth and impact in human lives has to be truly unprecedented. As in history, we see most of the observations that have made sweeping changes in human lives have been harnessed while being under a tree or in a bath tub or a garage or at a farmland and so on as reviewed in the cases above.

As a part of the human society I wish to see our temples of erudition equipped with latest tools of learning and thought application produce “big leap” beings but with an eye more sharper than a scanner in making observations, brain with a high end processing and giga byte memory to analyze situations with a resolve & rectitude that is stronger than the present powerful man in today’s world.

If that is made possible we can expect to ask these incumbents of “big leap” clan even before they set out to excel that…How long will make the civilized society of real world to become the world of Matrix!
