Kittens Take Over My Apartment

It takes a special person to share their household with a pet. In my household it is cats. I have always been a cat lover. Cats have an aloofness about them that let you know they are just tolerating you. They are expressing to you that they are willing to share their house with you.

My journey with cats started as a child with the first kitten my mother gave me. He was so cute! We named him Mickey Mouse. He was all black and loved to catch mice. He was the first in a long line of feline friends that have found their way to my home.

My current abode is a three bedroom apartment in the country and yes there are feline roommates here too. PJ was born in this apartment 9 years ago, so he is the old man of the bunch. Stormy was a present from my daughter. Before I could get PJ fixed he and Stormy had a litter that my daughter kept a male kitten from. She named him Nicodeamus after her favorite character on a movie called The Secrets of Nihm.

I have two that were left on my doorstep and am also caring for two of my brother’s cats since he is currently house hunting. One of my saves was a fixed male cat that my daughter named Goliath. It is funny too because he does not look like his name and is very even tempered.

The last cat that was dropped off here is a male buff colored cat the earned the name Hellion because he was into trouble from day one. He is now the proud poppa of five kittens that are also part of my household. My brother’s cat Ravage had three and my female cat Jazz had two.

These kittens are the cutest little fur covered additions. Three are tiger striped, one is all black and one has muted calico colors with silver tipped hair. They are all about five weeks old and getting around very well. They fight with each other and their mothers regularly. My daughter had found homes for three of them already.  The new owners are only waiting until the kittens are ready to be weaned. The last two will also have good homes since my daughter will take one and I will keep the other one.

I have had much joy in my life with cats. They all have their own personality and give me many moments of laughter. PJ, of course, is not super happy. He has let them all know he is the king of the abode. He is very good with the kittens. He lets them play with his tail and jump on his head. He wears this expression that can only be determined to be indulgence for the young kittens.

It is beyond me as I watch my feline family how anyone could drop off an unwanted cat and leave it to fend for itself. Not all of them will be lucky and find someone like me. With all the organizations out there that take unwanted animals in, it is cruel not to take advantage of them.
