Jeff Conway Dies at the Age of 60
Actor Jeff Conway, who was in the TV series "Taxi" and the movie "Grease," died Friday morning from pneumonia, his manager said.
Conway, 60, suffered from pneumonia and sepsis in recent weeks and had been in a medically-induced coma in an Encino, California, hospital for two weeks, manager Phil Brock said.
Recently, Conway was on the rehab show with Dr. Drew. Ultimately, his addiction to drugs probably did him in, although it was not the direct cause of death.
Conway broke through into Hollywood with the hit movie “Grease”, in which he played Kenickie. From there, he played on the TV series “Taxi” before his drug addiction led him to be fired from the show.
After his drug problems, his career only went down. He did odd jobs here and there, but nothing ever big again. He did Celebrity Fit Club to try and get back into shape, but had to leave the show. Finally, in 2008, he was on Celebrity Rehab to try and get his addiction under control. While it helped for a bit, it seems as though his lifelong abuse finally caught up to him.
On May 11, 2011, he was found unconscious at what was thought to be a drug overdose. It was, in fact, complications from pneumonia, in which he was then put into a medically-induced coma. He then died on May 26, 2011, after 15 days in the coma.
