How to Successfully Make Your First Stencil Printing

Before you start work, you should cover the table you will be working on with a large newspaper. It is also advisable for you to wear some old clothes or cover yourself with a cloth. In order to create this project you will need to follow some simple rules:

1. Draw the basic design with a fell-tip pen on a regular cardboard. If your design has more than one part, draw each part seperately. Be sure to leave space between all the parts of the design.

2. Cut out each part of the design. You now have a piece of cardboard with holes in it. This is your stencil. You will paint through the holes in the stencil.

3. Take a piece of blank paper and put it on a layer of newspaper. Place the stencil on top of the paper and tape it down on all four sides. The paper will show through the holes.

4. Hold the toothbrush in one hand. Use the finger of the other hand to dab a little paint on the bristles of the toothbrush.

5. Hold the toothbrush on one of the holes in the stencil. Now run your finger over the paint-covered bristles. Be sure to move your finger toward you, so that the paint will spatter away from you. The paint will spatter onto the paperthrough the holes in the stencil. Do the same thing over each of the holes.

6. When you finish spattering paint, carefully untape the stencil and lift it off the paper. Your design is now on the paper and you have a stencil print to hang in your room.
