The cover letter introduces you to a potential employer, and also gives you the chance to discuss what you can not in your resume. If you have had to cut a six-page resume down to two pages, let the cover letter be the place where you explain your characteristics and why they are perfect for the job you want. Integrating those keywords into the letter is just as important as the words you use, however. For instance, you should be sure to connect the keywords you are using to the job description and information that you know about the company. If you think you can serve the company well because you are methodical, and your potential job requires doing scientific tests over and over again to ensure reliable results, make the connection for the employer using the power word methodical.

You can also use your cover letter to highlight the experience you have had using power words, action verbs that show the employer that you have the one with the most experience. For instance, if you are applying for an administrative position, you might say that you have scheduled instead of made appointments. Scheduled is a keyword that might even be mentioned in the job description for the position. It reaches out and grabs the potential employer, saying, This person has relevant experience. When you use power words that adequately and accurately describe your character and your experience, you will not be sitting on the sidelines any longer.
