Champs Elysees shooting: 'one policeman dead and another injured' after gunman opens fire near Paris landmark

One police officer has died and another has been injured after a gunman opened fire near the Champs Elysees in Paris. Armed police have been deployed to the landmark after the shooting. The gunman has also been killed.

Paris police spokeswoman Johanna Primevert said that the attacker targeted police guarding the area near the Franklin Roosevelt subway station at the centre of the avenue.

The attack came three days before the first round of France's tense presidential election. A police helicopter was seen flying low over the area.
